Wintertime Fun: Ice Skate At The Blue Cross RiverRink At Penn’s Landing

Dec - 27 | | no comments. | Center City

The Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing is Philadelphia’s only outdoor public ice rink (at least until Dilworth Plaza reopens), and the 2012-2013 season marks the 19th year for this wintertime tradition.

Open through the beginning of March 2013, this outdoor Olympic size rink overlooks the Delaware River. If you get chilly, enjoy some time in the indoor heated facility, complete with snack bar, game room, and more. If you're interested in trying out the ice, the RiverRink has open ice hours Monday through Thursday from 6–9 p.m.; Fridays from 1:30-5:30 p.m., 6–8 p.m., 8:30–10:30 p.m., and 11 p.m –1 a.m.; Saturday from 12:30–2:30 p.m., 3– 5:30 p.m., 6–8 p.m., 8:30–10:30 p.m., and 11 p.m.–1 a.m.; and Sunday from 12:30–2:30 p.m., 3– 5:30 p.m., 6–9 p.m.

And, if you stop by on Friday or Saturday evenings, you can enjoy DJ jams that will keep the party going from 9 p.m.-midnight.

If you need to brush up on your skating skills, you can book a private ice skating lesson, or for a fun holiday event or birthday party, book a group party, or attend one of the great events like Daddy Daughter Skate, Thursday, January 31st; or Sweetheart Skate, Thursday February 14th.

Even better, skating admission is a bargain at only $9, with an additional skate rental of $4 if you need a pair of skates. Also, convenient parking is available on-site for just $12.

New this season, you can now purchase tickets for the RiverRink in advance online at the RiverRink site.

Before you head out, keep in mind that there are special hours for holidays, including New Year’s Eve & Day, Martin Luther King Day, and President’s Day; more about that here.
