Learn About Philadelphia’s Maritime History

If you're enthralled by the sea, there's a great new exhibit that you have to check out at Philadelphia's Independence Seaport Museum. The museum, which is located at Penn's Landing on the banks of the Delaware River, not far from Old City and Society Hill, is hosting an exhibit curated by lifelong boat enthusiast and artist, David Boone, entitled Tugboats: The Art of Dave Boone.

This free exhibit highlights Dave Boone’s watercolor paintings of tugboats and other ships, and is a delight for all ages. Boone is a talented, well-known, self-taught artist who has a great deal of boating experience.

The exhibit is now open, and will be on display until August 4, 2013. Plus, after visiting the Tugboat exhibit, you can then explore all of the offerings at the Independence Seaport Museum. Kids will love the chance to climb aboard the Olympia and the Becuna, two historic ships housed at the museum, as they learn about Philadelphia’s maritime history first hand. Even better, this specialty exhibit is free with the price of general museum admission, making it an education, fun, and cost-effective way to spend an afternoon.
